The Problem With Forex Broker Reviews
Type "best forex broker" into Google. You'll get dozens of review sites. Most of them have one thing in common: they've never actually traded with the brokers they rank.
Their "reviews" are assembled from spec sheets, marketing copy, and broker-supplied data. Spreads are listed as advertised — not as experienced. Platforms are rated based on feature lists, not real trading sessions. Withdrawal times are estimated, not tested.
And most importantly — almost all of them are paid. Brokers pay for placement. The "#1 Broker" is frequently the one with the largest affiliate commission, not the best trading conditions.
What Real-Money Testing Actually Means
Every broker on FXTopBrokers.com has been tested with a live funded account. Not a demo account. Not a virtual balance. A real account, with real money, placing real trades.
-
01We deposit our own money Typically AUD $500–$2,000 depending on the broker's minimum deposit requirement. The account is funded before a single word of the review is written.
-
02We place real trades across multiple sessions Multiple trading sessions, across multiple market conditions. London open. New York session. During high-impact news events. Not just a single quiet Tuesday afternoon.
-
03We measure actual spreads — not advertised ones We record live EUR/USD spreads at London open, during the New York session, and during scheduled news releases. Not "typical" spreads from a marketing page. What you actually pay.
-
04We test withdrawals — and time them We submit a real withdrawal request and time it from submission to funds received. Every broker's stated withdrawal timeframe is tested against reality. The results are often surprising.
-
05We contact customer support with real questions Not "hello can you help me" test messages. Genuine account queries — questions about swap rates, margin requirements, platform connectivity, and account features that real traders actually ask.
-
06We stress-test the platform Mobile app on a slower connection. Desktop during high volatility. Checking order execution under real-world conditions, not just a well-connected office computer on a quiet day.
The Five Pillars We Score On
Every broker receives a score from 1–10 across five categories. The final rating is a weighted average. We weight trading conditions and platform reliability most heavily — because that's what actually affects your P&L.
| Pillar | Weight | What We Actually Measure | Score range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trading Conditions | 30% | Live spreads, slippage, execution speed, swap rates | |
| Platform & Tools | 25% | MT4/MT5/cTrader stability, charting, mobile app quality | |
| Regulation & Safety | 20% | Tier-1 licences, fund segregation, negative balance protection | |
| Withdrawals & Deposits | 15% | Speed, fees, methods available, rejection rate | |
| Customer Support | 10% | Response time, quality of answers, escalation path |
What We Don't Do
We don't accept payment for rankings. No broker can pay to appear in our "Best Of" lists. No broker has editorial approval over their review. If a broker scores poorly, we publish it.
We do run an annual awards programme — the FXTopBrokers Awards — where brokers can be nominated and recognised for excellence in specific categories. Participation in the awards is separate from our review methodology and has no influence on broker ratings.
We disclose affiliate relationships where they exist. If we earn a commission when you open an account, we say so. Clearly. At the top of the page.
Why This Matters to You
If you're a trader: you deserve a review you can actually trust. One where the "recommended" broker is the one that performed best — not the one that paid the most. Our methodology is transparent, our scores are based on real data, and we publish poor results the same as strong ones.
If you work in the forex industry: you deserve a recognition framework that's based on merit. The FXTopBrokers Awards exist to give brokers who genuinely deliver for their clients a credible, independent stamp of approval.
